Alexandria, Egypt
Before
arriving in Alexandria, we had a sea day.
B & I were hoping more folks would join the ship board activities
but we only had 6 at golf, 8 at bocce and 8 at ping pong. I came
in 2nd at golf, couldn’t play bocce cause it was the same time as
trivia and I have decided ping pong is more trouble than it’s worth, having to
bend over and pick up that little ball all the time…lol! B had to play two rounds then come back to
the room to wring out his shirt! The
weather here is full of humidity and not near as pleasant as The Black
Sea. Today is about 86* but 78%
humidity! We will just pretend we are
back in Texas! Ha!
Lots
of folks left the ship in Alexandria for an overnight trip to Cairo to see the
pyramids. We have been there before so
opted to explore Alexandria again. We wandered
into town and found the local food market and fish market. Folks were very friendly however the young
ladies wearing head coverings laughed quite often at my blue hair… I wanted to ask them what color their hair
was under their shawls…lol! When we got
tired of shopping, we found a horse and carriage and negotiated with the driver
to tour us around the town and return us to our ship for $10. It was a lovely ride down to the sandcastle
on the waterfront and over to the local mosque but when we got to the ship and
tried to pay him $20, he said “no, no it was $50!” So we just walked away – I stopped and put
the $20 in his pocket and kept on going…
Achmiid was good, but not worth $50!
LOL!!!
There
was a terrific souvenir market right at the ship, so I bought lots more gifties
which you will see and hear about when I come home.
Today
we are in Port Sahid, Egypt awaiting the return of the pyramid caravaners. Not much to do here so we are just relaxing
on the ship. We are off to play bocce
and trivia in a bit.
Oh
the next two days are in Israel, however it is a week of Holy Days there so
lots of stuff will be closed… poor planning
on HAL’s part, but we will see it there are any Muslim shops open…lol!
Hope
this finds all of you well – sure would be nice if a few of you would make a
comment here or send a quick email…(this computer does not have my address book
in it) I miss hearing from my friends…
Happy
Sailing…
